The Michigan Chronicle Editorial Board has endorsed several candidates for the state’s upcoming primary elections on Aug. 4, 2026. Michigan is considered a key state within the national landscape, particularly as the Democratic party decides who it will endorse for the 2028 presidential election.
At stake is the party’s decision to choose a more traditional Democratic candidate or a more progressive candidate to pit against the Republican nominee (who is currently undetermined with Donald Trump being term limited).
That decision is underscored most notably in the Democratic primary for Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, with Congresswoman Haley Stevens billed as the establishment Dem and Dr. Abdul El-Sayed billed as the progressive Dem.
With that in mind, Michigan Chronicle has made endorsements in the following Michigan races:
- Governor
- U.S. Senate
- Secretary of State
- Wayne County Executive
- 5th District – Wayne County Commissioner
- 1st District State Senate
- 3rd District State Senate
- 1st District State Representative
- 5th District State Representative
- 8th District State Representative
- 9th District State Representative

- 12th District State Representative
- 13th District State Representative
Additionally, the Chronicle has also endorsed two initiatives that will appear on voters’ ballots – the DPSCD millage (Proposal S) and the Regional Mobility millage (to fund SMART).
