Now that most of free world and beyond is aware of the fact that singer/actress Brandy (Norwood) is engaged to handsome record executive Ryan Press, there are renewed conversations about her having lied about having been married to Robert Smith, the father of her daughter, Sy’rai.
Brandy said she had a very clean, wholesome image and didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize that. Plus there was outside pressure.
“Everybody around me was trying to force me to get married,” said Brandy. “So I said, ‘Why don’t I just say I’m married?’”
She received a lot of negative press once the truth got out.
“It was the biggest mistake I have ever made,” she admitted.
But this time it’s different.
“I don’t have to camouflage anything for Ryan or put on a mask,” she said. “He loves me for me and my daughter loves Ryan. I would marry him even with a bubblegum ring!”
