Detroit’s jazz festival weekend will get an early start Sept. 3 with Birdy Sessions, an evening of live music featuring several well-known local musicians.

The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Birdy Room and will feature vocalist Kathy Kosins, bassist and 2025 Kresge Eminent Artist Award recipient Marion Hayden, pianist Michael Malis and percussionist Tariq Gardner.

Designed as a kickoff to the weekend’s jazz festivities, Birdy Sessions will use a strolling format across the Birdy Room and outdoor terrace, with limited lounge seating available. Guests can also purchase cocktails, beer, wine and other drinks from the private Birdy Room bar.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7 p.m. and a brief intermission scheduled during the evening. Tickets are $25.
