White House Tackles Winter Bills Through $4.5B American Rescue Plan Funding

With freezing temperatures and rising heating costs, the White House administration is dolling out an extra $4.5 billion in funding to assist in covering heating costs for low-income Americans this season, FOX 2 News reported.

The funding falls under the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan COVID-19 relief package passed last year, the White House said and it grew twice than the regular annual appropriations for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, LIHEAP, according to the article.

“These resources are already allowing states across the country to provide more home energy relief to low-income Americans than ever before,” the White House said in a statement.

Electricity and natural gas prices are roughly 11% higher than in 2021, per the Labor Department’s consumer price index. Residential heating oil prices are up about 40% from a year ago, according to the Energy Information Administration.
