The 18th Annual Detroit Black Music Awards takes place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, honoring local artists, entertainers, and cultural leaders. Founded in 2009 by actress and performer Misty Love, the show features categories such as Entertainer of the Year and Rising Star, as well as awards for Gospel and Jazz artists and performances, to name a few.
This year’s event will be held at the American Serbian Memorial Hall (19940 Van Dyke Ave, Detroit, MI 48234) and will celebrate the artists, entertainers, broadcasters, and cultural leaders who continue to shape Detroit’s musical legacy.
The evening begins with a Red Carpet Experience at 5:30 PM, followed by the awards ceremony at 7:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to wear formal attire for this prestigious celebration of Black excellence in music and entertainment.
“We give Lifetime Achievement Awards, Special Tribute Awards; this year we’re presenting a Music Icon Award and an Image Award…We have a spectacular show lined up as well with some of Detroit’s A-List entertainers,” Love says.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to acclaimed drummer Muruga Booker, National R&B Hall of Fame Recipient Gwen Foxx, flutist and radio personality Alexander Zonjic, Jazz musician and composer Pamela Wise, violinist Mike Saxon, Pianist, Vocalist, Composer, Arranger, Songwriter, Producer, Entrepreneurs Gwen & Charles Scales, and instrumentalist Larry Sims.
