Southfield P&R presents Family Fun and Safety Night (featuring Family Movie Under the Stars) June 26

The city of Southfield will host the Family Fun and Safety Night on Wednesday, June 26 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on the Southfield Municipal Complex front lawn, 26000 Evergreen Road.

This free event will offer something for the entire family, including: karate, soccer, football, cheerleading and L.A. Fitness clinics, children’s fun area featuring inflatables (must wear socks), rock climbing wall, and health / safety info booths. The Southfield Police Department’s K-9 Division, Mobile Command Unit, General Purpose Vehicle, ATV, Special Entry Response Team, Crime Prevention, Community Policing, and Neighborhood Watch representatives will also be on hand in addition to tours of the Southfield Fire Department’s Fire Safety House. The Detroit Lions will provide the Lion’s football helmet bouncer and quarterback toss game, the American Heart Association will sponsor an interactive spin-to-win game, and Great Clips will provide free “crazy color” temporary hair spraying. Beaumont Hospital will also be on site with their virtual driving simulator to offer a hands-on experience that demonstrates how texting and driving or driving under the influence of alcohol can have deadly results.

Attendees can stop by the Hard Hats for Little Heads tent where family physicians and medical residents from the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians Foundation and St. John Providence Health System will hand out and fit 500 free bike helmets for children of all ages (on a first-come, first-served basis).  Physicians will ensure that each child’s helmet fits properly and provide the basics of helmet safety as well as health screening, information and counseling. Even the best bike riders, skaters and boarders can crash, which is why wearing a helmet is so important to avoid a serious head injury. Stay safe while staying active!

The evening will be topped off with a special family movie under the stars featuring Hotel Transylvania presented by Park*It Family Fun Nights. The movie will begin at 8:15 p.m. and run until approximately 10 p.m. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
Refreshments will be available for purchase. For more information, call the Southfield Parks and Recreation Department at (248) 796-4620.
