Second Ebenezer Church will host their 24th Annual College Fair, this year adding a trade component to go with the colleges and universities that are in attendance.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 25 at 14601 Dequindre Road in Detroit and will give high school students and parents access to representatives from more than 50 colleges across the country. There will also be numerous trade schools that will be on hand to give alternative career options. There will also be resources and workshops to prepare attendees for the transition from high school to college. For the last 24 years, the college fair has reached approximately 25,000 students and distributed close to $350,000 in scholarships.
“I am happy once again to welcome students, parents and stakeholders to our 24th Annual College and Trade Fair. This signature event has historically captured the spirit of higher education being made available to a broad number of young people and across the region.”, says Bishop Edgar L. Vann, lead pastor of Second Ebenezer Church. “Colleges, universities, HBCU’s and skilled trade opportunities will be here on site and financial resource information will also be shared to raise the quality of life and propel opportunity.”
Many schools will offer opportunities for onsite admission or high school seniors. Students interested in applying for onsite admissions should bring their transcripts, ACT/ SAT scores and three recommendation letters. Workshops focused on financial aid, ACT/SAT test preparation and financial literacy will be available. Information about available scholarships will be offered all day. There will also be several giveaways throughout the day.
New for this year will be information and recruiters from various trade schools and organizations including job corps, military, energy companies, cosmetology, broadcasting, and civil service. Under the dynamic and able leadership of Bishop Edgar L. Vann, Second Ebenezer has grown in more than just numbers. There are more than 50 active and thriving ministries. Bishop Vann uses every spiritual gift given to him to spread the gospel. He preaches, teaches, leads, motivates, sings, directs and plays the keyboards and organ. This year, Bishop Vann will celebrate 46 years of pastoral leadership.
