Some events are so good that you’re already looking forward to the next one before you even leave. Saksey’s first “One Night Only…” happy hour tasting with Angel’s Envy was just that—a well-planned evening where great bourbon, creative cocktails, and delicious bites all came together with ease.

The June 24 event kicked off Saksey’s new series, and guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres, a selection of Angel’s Envy cocktails, and a chance to learn about one of bourbon’s most popular brands in a cozy setting.

Angel’s Envy ambassador Michael Kirkland led guests through the Bourbon, Rye, and Triple Oak varieties, sharing both knowledge and stories. A highlight was the introduction of Angel’s Envy’s tasting wheel. Like the feelings wheel, but for bourbon, it helps you pick out the different aromas and flavors in each glass, from baking spices and toasted oak to fruit, vanilla, and caramel. Whether you’re a longtime bourbon fan or new to whiskey, it was a fun and easy way to learn more about what you’re drinking.

The Saksey’s bar team really impressed. Each cocktail highlighted a different Angel’s Envy spirit and showed off their creativity. The bourbon cocktail mixed Cocchi Americano, Cynar, passion fruit, li hing mui, and turmeric for a drink that was both bright and complex. The rye cocktail combined peach, ginger, coconut, PX sherry, and cardamom for a layered flavor, while the Triple Oak cocktail had earthy and floral notes with Pasubio, peanut, chamomile, and demerara.

Every cocktail was top-tier.

To be honest, I usually prefer my bourbon neat. Angel’s Envy has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and I think it’s best enjoyed straight, so you can taste every rich note. The featured Angel’s Envy 10-Year pour was a great reminder that sometimes, simple is best.

The food was just as impressive as the drinks. The foie gras PB&J and sweet potato croquettes were tasty, but the crispy pork belly sliders were the real standout. Saksey’s, if you’re reading this, those sliders should be on the menu all the time. No changes needed.

If this first “One Night Only…” event is a sign of what’s to come, cocktail fans and anyone who enjoys a great night out should watch for Saksey’s future events. You won’t want to miss the next one.
