Pierre Batton is a community and economic development maven with over ten years of experience leading initiatives and programs that intersect the areas of work force development, entrepreneurship, housing and economic mobility. In his current role as Vice President of Small Business Services at the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, Batton oversees the City of Detroit’s small business development efforts. His 21-person team is responsible for advancing and implementing effective strategies through programs and services that grow and strengthen Detroit’s small business community in equitable and inclusive ways. Batton is no stranger to rolling up his sleeves and mobilizing partners and resources when times get tough. Most recently he led the City of Detroit’s COVID-19 small business grant efforts including creating and implementing two emergency grant programs to disburse $11 million dollars in aid to Detroit small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Batton has an impressive and extensive educational background, including a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan with a specialization in social finance. Pierre resides in Detroit with his wife Brianna Batton.
