MOTOWN RECORDS FOUNDER BERRY GORDY TO ATTEND, RECEIVE THE MICHIGAN CHRONICLE’S LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD- SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7TH, 6 P.M.
DETROIT, MI – For the past nine years, Real Times Media and the Michigan Chronicle have sought to assess and reflect those who are standouts in the City of Detroit each year. The Legacy in Motion black tie gala, one of the premier metropolitan Detroit events, will celebrate and honor this years movers, shakers and newsmakers.
Saturday, December 7th from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. several hundred senior level executives, political and business leaders, dignitaries, luminaries and guests will gather at the newly renovated Cobo Conference Center inside the Grand Ballroom in downtown Detroit to pay tribute to a prestigious group of individuals and organizations. The work done and successes achieved by this distinct class will be celebrated at this annual Legacy in Motion gala. Tickets are $150. Detroit’s own Ed Gordon will serve as event MC.
An event highlight, Motown founder Mr. Berry Gordy, Jr. will travel back to his Detroit hometown to receive the prestigious 2013 Legacy in Motion Lifetime Achievement Award during the gala amongst friends, family, colleagues and guests. Mayor-elect Mike Duggan will also be present to accept honors.
Berry Gordy Jr. founded Motown Records in 1959. The record company grew into the most successful African American enterprise in the United States and was responsible for creating a new sound that changed popular music has transcended time.
“Mr. Gordy’s first job was as a newspaper boy for the Michigan Chronicle,” said Cathy Nedd, Chief Operating Officer for the Michigan Chronicle. “To have such an iconic figure that contributed his many talents in music and in business in order to create a cultural empire through music that the world will forever recognize is why Mr. Gordy so very much deserves this Lifetime Achievement Award,” says Nedd.
