The Ice Bucket Challenge has penetrated pop culture in ways few fundraising campaigns are able to do. The challenge is raising money and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known to the world at the debilitating and ultimately deadly ALS or “Lou Gehrig’s disease.” Overnight, the Ice Bucket Challenge has become a social media juggernaut that has garnered the support and participation of major A-list celebrities.
Donations to the ALS Association have skyrocketed to an all-time high of $13.3 million dollars as of Sunday, in large part due to the megastars like Oprah Winfrey, LeBron James, Kerry Washington, Dwyane Wade, Justin Bieber and others lending their name to the cause.
