Kym Worthy plans to sue Wayne County over budget

(WXYZ) – Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy is planning to file a lawsuit against her own county.

Worthy will challenge the budget just approved by the Wayne County Commission, because she says it fails to properly fund her office.

She says the $25-million bottom line is a $6-million cut from last year.

Worthy calls public safety the most important function of government and says the prosecutor’s office is the engine that makes the justice system run.

“We have balanced our budget for six years straight and we were cut more than any other entity in the County – even those who exceeded their budget allotment by millions,” Worthy said in a statement. “We are preparing to file a lawsuit to challenge this budget and to demand that this office be properly funded.”
