Fox Theatre Concert Saturday, Detroit Lions Game Sunday and Other Events Will Be Accessible
Construction crews will be closing a section of I-75 (Fisher Freeway) in Detroit, between I-375 and M-10 (Lodge Freeway) this weekend beginning Fri., Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. The I-75 closure is required so crews can demolish the west half (southbound lanes) of the Woodward Avenue overpass above the freeway. The lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Mon., Sept. 22.
“Closing this section of I-75 this weekend is necessary for the project to stay on track, but we have been working closely with the Detroit Lions, Olympia Entertainment and others to accommodate their needs and provide information they can share with event-goers,” said M-1 RAIL Chief Operating Officer Paul Childs. “To accommodate fans heading to Sunday’s Detroit Lions game, crews will open the ramp from northbound I-75 to Grand River Avenue from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday.”
During the closure, northbound I-75 motorists will be directed to westbound I-96, to eastbound I-94, then back to northbound I-75. Southbound motorists will be directed to westbound I-94, to eastbound I-96, then back to southbound I-75. The ramps from northbound and southbound M-10 to southbound I-75 will be open over the entire weekend.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 22, I-75 will have three lanes open in each direction under the Woodward Avenue Bridge with traffic shifted towards the outside shoulders of the freeway. The Clifford Street entrance ramp to northbound I-75 will remain closed until all bridge work is completed in fall 2015.”
The west side of the I-75 Bridge at Woodward Avenue and the service drives will not be accessible to pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians will have to cross on the east side of Woodward Avenue either at Sibley St. or Elizabeth St.
