HBO premieres its new Sunday night lineup

True-Detective-season-2-1“True Detective” (9 p.m. Sunday, HBO). After more than a year of casting rumors, memes and hashtag wish lists and confusion over the plot, “True Detective” Season 2 finally premiered on Sunday night. The first episode of the new season, which is completely separate from Season 1, introduced audiences to a new round of characters, a fictional city and an entirely new mystery centered around the murder of a corrupt California politician.

“Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown” (9 p.m. Sunday, CNN). The foodie travels to Beirut.

“Ballers” (10 p.m. Sunday, HBO). Premiere of comedy-drama about the lives of current and former NFL players, including the show’s executive producer Dwayne Johnson who plays Miami Dolphin Spencer Strasmore, who tries to navigate the tricky plays of retirement while mentoring up-and-comers. Mark Wahlberg is co-producing with Johnson.

The Brink (10:32 p.m. Sunday, HBO). Pilot for new black comedy about a military coup in Pakistan, and the rush to forestall World War III.
