James Craig Will Give Inaugural Political Speech on Tuesday

Craig retired from his post in June, and the Michigan Chronicle reported previously that he has considered running against Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2022.

The speech will be in the city to commemorate the birthday of the Republican Party, according to the article.

Although Craig has not explicitly said if he will run in the gubernatorial race, when WXYZ’s Carolyn Clifford asked him why he was going into politics, he responded.

“First of all, I didn’t say I was going to go into politics. Possibly, certainly, I’m evaluating my options. It’s no secret members of the GOP local and state have reached out,” according to the article.

Craig also said in the article that Democrats, in addition to Republicans, are interested in him joining their parties, respectively.

“What people want today is one thing,” he said in the article. “They want bold leadership; leaders that are ethical and that are transparent.”
