Detroit’s dining scene keeps changing, and Pine Hall, the latest spot inside Hudson’s Detroit, brings its own unique style. It’s an elevated tavern with British touches, serving a menu that matches the theme. But the rooftop might just be its biggest attraction.

The food has its highlights, but Pine Hall really stands out once you head up to the rooftop.

Rooftop spots are more popular than ever with both visitors and locals, and Pine Hall arrives at the perfect moment. The large rooftop has plenty of seating, cozy fire lamps, and wide views of the city. Whether you’re watching the sunset or having drinks with friends, it’s the kind of place you want to stay long after you finish eating.

When it comes to cocktails, Pine Hall really nails it.

The highlight of the drink menu is the award-winning Espresso Martini. It’s perfectly balanced—not too sweet, with just the right amount of coffee flavor and a smooth, rich finish. It’s so good you might want to order another. If you only try one drink, make it this one.

There are several good appetizers, but two really stand out.

First up is the Sausage Roll, made with house English sausage in flaky puff pastry and served with Dijon mustard. It’s comforting, savory, and done just right.

The other must-try starter is the Crab Imperial Toast. It’s topped with jumbo lump crab, parmesan, and lemon, giving you a bright, rich bite that’s indulgent but not too heavy.

For main courses, the Bistro Steak is the clear winner. The bavette steak comes with a duck-fat-baked potato and whipped butter, making for a hearty yet refined dish. Everything on the plate works well together, making it the best entrée on the menu.

The trout is a close second, cooked simply so the fish stays the focus. In my opinion, though, you might want to skip the spring salad on top. The greens can overpower the trout’s delicate flavor rather than enhance it.

Just like the Espresso Martini, Pine Hall saves one of its best surprises for the end of the meal.

Linda’s Toffee Pudding isn’t just a dessert—it’s a must-try.

It’s made with Devonshire cream and pecans, using a recipe from Executive Chef Richard Craig’s Aunt Linda. The pudding has a comforting sweetness that feels nostalgic. And even though I don’t usually go for dessert, I’d come back just for this one.

Honestly, an Espresso Martini, Linda’s Toffee Pudding, and a sunset on the rooftop is all I need for a perfect evening.

The food is solid, and the cocktails are outstanding. But it’s the mix of rooftop atmosphere, city views, and a dessert you’ll want to plan your night around that makes Pine Hall a place definitely worth visiting.
