Download the The 2020 Census Business Engagement Toolkit

The Detroit Regional Chamber is providing residents with a 2020 Census toolkit. This toolkit will give residents everything they need to fill out their 2020 Census form to be counted. This year’s Census is extremely important for Detroit, which is why there’s been an increase in promotional campaigns and general awareness. Households will start receiving their census packets beginning March 12.

Below are a few items that you’ll find in the toolkit:

  • The U.S. Constitution requires a census every ten years. The Census covers the entire country and everyone living here. The first Census was in 1790.
  • Census data determines how more than $675 billion is spent supporting vital community programs, including road construction, Medicare, special education, free school lunches, bridge cards and WIC, and more.
  • The census count determines the number of representatives Michigan has in Congress. Following each Census, state officials use the results to redraw the boundaries of their congressional and state legislative districts, adapting to population shifts.
  • For every Detroiter who does not fill out the Census, the City of Detroit loses $1,800 each year for the next ten years.

Also included in the toolkit are social media accounts and hashtags regarding the Census, business resources, and more.
