Five members of the Michigan Legislature’s Detroit Caucus to be inducted at the 5th Annual Tyrone E. Winfrey Hall of Fame Alumni Gala on May 16

The Detroit Public Schools Community District Foundation today announced the 2026 class of Detroit Public Schools Community District Hall of Fame inductees. Five members of the Michigan Legislature’s Detroit Caucus, all proud graduates of DPSCD high schools, will be formally honored at the 5th Annual Tyrone E. Winfrey Hall of Fame Alumni Gala on Saturday, May 16. The VIP Hour is 6 – 8 PM and the Main Event is from 8:30 PM – Midnight. Tickets are $150 and available at dpscdfoundation.org

The DPSCD Hall of Fame recognizes distinguished alumni whose leadership and service have created meaningful impact beyond their graduation, particularly those who continue to champion opportunities for Detroit students and public education. This year’s class embodies that commitment. As members of the Detroit Legislative Caucus, these leaders have demonstrated sustained advocacy for advancing Detroit’s public schools and the success of the next generation of students.

“We are incredibly proud to induct these five trailblazers into the DPSCD Hall of Fame,” said Kerrie Mitchell Campbell-Mabins, president and CEO of the DPSCD Foundation. “Their careers are a testament to what a Detroit public school education makes possible, and their ongoing commitment to our students and schools makes this recognition especially meaningful.”

Young is a graduate of Cass Technical High School, Class of 1983.

Tyrone Carter is a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives who has represented Detroit-area districts since 2018 and the immediate past chair of the Detroit Legislative Caucus. Carter graduated from Southwestern High School in 1980.

This DPSCD Hall of Fame class reflects Detroit’s public school legacy, from Cass Tech and Renaissance, to Southwestern, Mumford, and beyond – and the enduring civic impact of those who walk the halls of Detroit’s public high schools.

The 5th Annual Tyrone E. Winfrey Hall of Fame Alumni Gala is themed, “A Different World: A Future-Forward Celebration of DPSCD.” The evening brings together executives, civic leaders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and alumni, to celebrate distinguished graduates and raise critical funds for Detroit students.

Proceeds from the Gala directly support the DPSCD Foundation’s mission to expand opportunity, strengthen career pathways, and provide critical resources that help students succeed.
