Detroit Cultural Center Launches Inaugural Educators’ Night on Sept. 26

Midtown Detroit, Inc. is leading the charge in unveiling a unique event for K-12 educators throughout the Detroit metro region. The inaugural district-wide Educators’ Night, scheduled for Tuesday, September 26 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., promises an enriching experience designed to connect teachers with the abundant educational resources within the Detroit Cultural Center and beyond.

The event is FREE and boasts a rich array of engaging activities, hands-on demonstrations, educational displays, and tours. Hosting venues for the enlightening evening include esteemed establishments such as The Carr Center, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Michigan Science Center.

In a recent statement, Susan T. Mosey, the Executive Director of Midtown Detroit, Inc. (MDI), expressed her optimism and the overarching mission behind the event. “As a vibrant hub of culture and knowledge, the Detroit Cultural Center is proud to host its first-ever Educators’ Night. This event underscores the district’s commitment to supporting educators and enhancing classroom experiences for students,” stated Mosey.

The goal of Educators’ Night is multi-faceted. It seeks to build robust relationships between educators and Cultural Center institutions, showcase vast opportunities for students and teachers alike, and empower educators with resources for creating vibrant, enriching classroom environments.

During this night, teachers can navigate through various cultural institutions open for exploration, each hosting different organizations from around the metro Detroit area themed around Art and Design, Music, Culture, History, Theatre, Natural History, Geography, and STEM. This format encourages educators to tailor their visits to their respective disciplines and then expand their journey to other venues throughout the night.

Emphasizing the importance of this event, Tyler Taylor, the Education Programs Manager at the Detroit Institute of Arts, remarked, “The DIA is excited to welcome educators to Detroit’s Cultural Center for a fun, informative evening where dozens of organizations will demonstrate how they can best support them and their students. At the DIA, it’s more than a museum. It’s a classroom where K-12 students can learn about history, culture, and creativity through direct engagement with works of art.”

Educators’ Night is not just a one-off event but a significant step towards enhancing the educational landscape in Detroit. It’s supported by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (CFSEM) and Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation, in collaboration with various esteemed institutions within Detroit.
