Renowned singer-songwriter Shaboozey is crafting his unique universe while making a name for himself in the alternative country and hip-hop genres. Having parents of Nigerian heritage and growing up in the quaint town of Woodbridge, Va., this versatile artist was influenced by a diverse array of music that included classic hip-hop and R&B, as well as country and blues legends like Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, and Lead Belly, along with brilliant lyricists such as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
A versatile crossover artist, he kicked off his road to fame with two remarkable features on Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER, making him the only artist to have multiple tracks on the album. His most recent work, the critically lauded masterpiece Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, made its debut in the top five of the Billboard 200 and received accolades from Rolling Stone for “paying tribute to country traditions while advancing them.” NPR names him “the future of country music,” while the Los Angeles Times has hailed him as “the breakout country artist of the year.”
The album’s smash single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” achieved 6X RIAA- platinum certification, holds the longest reign of 2024 at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has broken records dominating Billboard’s Country Airplay and Mediabase/Country Aircheck charts. The single has accumulated over a billion streams across DSPs, and made history making Shaboozey the first-ever Black artist to simultaneously top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and Hot 100.
He garnered Best New Artist and Song of the Summer nominations at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, recently won the New Artist of 2024 and New Artist Song of 2024 awards at the People’s Choice Country Awards and was named a TIME100 NEXT honoree. He has also been nominated for New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year at the 2024 Country Music Association Awards.
Rooted in his Virginia upbringing, Shaboozey remains dedicated to his rich traditional roots of creativity and artistic expression. He is effectively broadening the narrative of contemporary hip-hop by infusing elements of modern Americana, delivering a rich and distinctive artistry that resonates with a global audience.
His debut headline tour, titled “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going,” has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm, selling out in every market before the tour even launched.
Shaboozey is on a remarkable run of arena performances with Jelly Roll’s “Beautifully Broken” tour. His recent stop on this tour took place in Detroit on November 6, 2024, just adding to Shaboozey’s growing influence and popularity within the music industry.
