This Valentine’s Day, love will extend beyond roses and chocolate at The Henry Ford. On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation will transform its Museum Promenade into a vibrant marketplace celebrating Black entrepreneurship, culture, and community impact as part of its Black History Month programming.
From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., nearly 30 Black-owned small businesses will gather under one roof, offering metro Detroiters an opportunity to shop intentionally and locally, all with no museum ticket required.
The Black-Owned Business Market is a curated experience designed to highlight entrepreneurs whose missions, products, and community ties reflect the very stories of innovation, resilience, and cultural influence told daily throughout the museum’s exhibits.
Each participating vendor was selected based on product variety, community-based initiatives, cultural relevance, or a meaningful connection to the broader narratives of American history preserved at The Henry Ford.
Visitors can expect a wide range of offerings perfect for Valentine’s Day gift-giving or simply treating themselves. Vendors will feature specialty food items, handcrafted jewelry, personal care products, books, apparel, art, and other unique goods. From indulgent sweets and savory bites to statement accessories and thoughtfully made self-care items, the market promises something for every taste and budget.
Hosting the market inside the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation carries symbolic weight. The institution, known for chronicling the innovators and changemakers who shaped the nation, is extending that platform to contemporary entrepreneurs who are building legacy businesses today.
The market also reflects a growing movement to support small, community-based businesses, particularly those owned by people of color. For many of the featured entrepreneurs, participation offers exposure to new audiences and the opportunity to connect directly with customers in a high-traffic cultural institution.
For shoppers, it provides a chance to invest dollars back into neighborhoods and families across metro Detroit.
Importantly, accessibility is at the forefront of the event. Guests can enter through The Henry Ford’s Welcome Center and browse the market without purchasing museum admission, removing barriers and inviting the broader community to participate in the celebration.
This Saturday, shoppers can mark Valentine’s Day with gifts that are rooted in culture, crafted with care, and powered by purpose.
