157 Titans Selected to Horizon League Fall & Spring Academic Honor Rolls

The final academic awards for the 2012-13 campaign are starting to pour in as the University of Detroit Mercy totaled 157 selections in both the Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Rolls, announced the conference office today (Tuesday, June 25).

A total of 1,404 honorees – 705 student-athletes in the fall semester and 699 student-athletes in the spring semester – from all nine Horizon League institutions and all 19 League sports compile the academic accolades.

“Nothing we do at the league office makes us more proud than to recognize these true student-athletes, whose success in academia and competition so well reflect the values we champion,” Horizon League Commissioner Jonathan LeCrone said.

Candidates for the academic honor rolls must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League’s 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).

The 157 Titan honorees marked the fifth most in the Horizon League as UDM competes in 15 of the 19 league-sponsored sports. (Men’s Lacrosse – MAAC, Women’s Lacrosse – Atlantic Sun, Men’s and Women’s Fencing – Midwest Fencing Conference).

Detroit’s women’s track and field/cross country (35), softball (27) men’s soccer (24) and women’s golf (14) programs led their respective sports with the most selections.
