Youth Career Fair Focuses On Green Job Opportunity

The Greening of Detroit is hosting its first Green College and Career Fair, in partnership with over 30 colleges and universities from throughout Michigan. Additional participating institutions include some historic black universities that include Howard University, Alcorn State University, and Knoxville College. Other institutions include, Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, University of Michigan, Wayne County Community College, US. Forest Service and Hip Hop Caucus.
The Greening of Detroit’s College and Career fair is focused around encouraging The Greening’s seasonal youth employees to pursue careers in environmental studies and job training in the ever-growing green jobs sector. There is growing demand for minorities in many of these sectors.

This fair will be attended by 180 of The Greening of Detroit Youth Employment participants further giving them an opportunity to encourage higher learning with focus on green infrastructure, forestry, community development and agriculture studies. The day will feature two breakout sessions for Greening’s youth that focuses around job readiness/leadership training, scholarship opportunities, college enrollment and ACT Preparation.
