Women's Power Breakfast Asks, "Are The Children Well?"

In the beautiful atrium of the Little Caesars arena women from around Metro Detroit gathered for breakfast, networking and a great cause: Feeding the children of our community.

The 25th Women’s Power Breakfast kicked off with a greeting by Gleaner’s President and CEO, Gerry Brisson, followed by a toast to Women’s Power Breakfast Founder, Dulcie Rosenfeld.

“The Women’s Power Breakfast continues to be a special event because it was founded on the idea that women can do anything they put their minds to,” says Dulcie Rosenfeld, Women’s Power Breakfast Founder.

2018 Women’s Power Breakfast Honorary Presenter, Tonya Allen, President and CEO of the Skillman Foundation greeted the audience with the traditional greeting of the Maasai tribe in Africa, “Are the children well?”

“We must place a high value on our children and their well-being, whether or not we are doing well in our city depends on if our children are doing. If you can say the children are doing well, then you can say that peace and safety prevail, and the least powerful, our children are good. If they are good, we are good.” Allen said.

1 in 5 kids in America lives in households without consistent access to enough food. Eliminating this statistic is Gleaners mission.

Gleaners is headquartered in Detroit and operate five distribution centers in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. It provides food to nearly 500 soup kitchens, pantries, shelters and other agencies. On average, Gleaners distributes 89,000 meals each day.

Next Tuesday, April 24, is a Double Your Donation day with Gleaners. That means your donations will go twice as far. For more information on Gleaners services, or to make a donation, visit www.gcfb.org.

If you missed the Women’s Power Breakfast, it’s not too late to contribute to the cause, come and enjoy sips, savories, and a wonderful silent auction at the 3rd annual Women’s Power Happy Hour where hundreds of powerful women come together to help kick off our Million Meal Match to help feed hungry children this spring.
