Happy 313 Day!
Monday, March 13 marks the unofficial (official to us) holiday for Detroit that residents, and those across the state, are celebrating in ways that all honor the spirit of Detroit, and the spirit of its resilient people.
From concerts and events to lunch and lounging, and everything in between, there’s a lot to do and see in the city and it all begins with brunch.
Visit Detroit says that Parc, in a downtown city central spot of Campus Martius Park, is getting all the good news because of its simple, posh and fancy dining experiences.P
Parc offers: “Sophisticated New American fare & a vast wine list offered in a chic, modern space in an urban park.” It most truly is – but even evermore as the large water fountain dances out front. Find more to love about Detroit’s Premier Dining Experience at Parc.
Discovery of Detroit
A French explorer and intrepid traveler in New France, which spanned from Eastern Canada to Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico, prior to his appointment as governor of Louisiana in 1710,
On July 24, 1701, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe Cadillac established Detroit.
On March 5, 1658, in Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave, France, Antoine Laumet, afterwards known as Antoine de la Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, was born. He passed away in Castelsarrasin, France, on October 16, 1730.
He continues to be most known for founding Detroit.
The Detroit River and one historic road are parallel. Since being renamed Jefferson Avenue in honor of the third President, Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, in 1807, Main Street has served as Detroit’s river thoroughfare.
Together with Woodward, Michigan, Grand River, and Gratiot, Jefferson is one of the five main thoroughfares in Detroit that Augustus Brevoort Woodward first laid out in 1805.
Woodward, who served as the first Chief Judge of the Michigan Territory, was instrumental in rebuilding Detroit after a disastrous fire in 1805. He advocated for radial avenue-based urban planning, similar to that of Washington, DC, and Paris.
Because of its French background, French-style architecture, and avenues that Augustus B. Woodward dubbed “Parisian Boulevards,” Detroit has earned the moniker “Paris of the Midwest” throughout history.
The Spirit of Detroit is located at the intersection of the original Woodward and Jefferson avenues.

Mia Ray has done it again– turning the every day into the extraordinary. The Glam-Aholic Boss partnered with the Detroit Pistons to create custom handbags on 313 Day, Metro Times reported.
Ray told the publication that while she has had huge goals for her Glam-Aholic Lifestyle company, she never expected to be working with the Detroit Pistons.
“It feels like I am literally dreaming,” Ray told Metro Times. “I am a D girl through and through. I can remember going to the games and sitting in the stands and now I am doing a collab with an amazing NBA team. … I definitely felt like this collaboration was something women in our city needed to see,” Ray says. “I am the first handbag line that the Pistons have ever teamed up with, so this means everything to me.”
