Wayne County Distributes masks to seniors in response to air quality alert

In response to the air quality alert issued due to the ongoing Canadian wildfires that continue to impact air quality across Southeast Michigan, Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans has today directed Wayne County staff to distribute more than 70,000 KN95 respirator masks to senior facilities throughout the county in an effort to protect some of the community’s most vulnerable population.

In addition to distributing masks, Wayne County encourages residents to stay indoors as much as possible in air conditioning and monitor local air quality conditions.

“I have asked my staff to step up and assist those who are most vulnerable,” said Executive Evans. “Public service means serving the public, and we are committed to helping protect our seniors during this period of poor air quality.”

Additionally, the Senior FunFest event that had been planned for this Saturday at Elizabeth Park in the downriver community has been cancelled, also due to concern for the health and well-being of those seniors who were planning to attend.
