It’s no secret the city of Detroit has been hit with hard times recently. Just last month, the once-booming metropolis filed for bankruptcy. But sporting events are supposed to serve as a safe haven from current events. Not so much in Cleveland Wednesday night.
During the ninth inning of a 4-all tie between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, a “Let’s Go Tigers!” chant started. The home team fans booed and came up with a cheer of their own: “Detroit’s bankrupt!” Ouch. The inappropriate cheer thankfully petered out quickly.
