‘Straight Outta Compton’ sequel already?

While Straight Outta Compton dominates the American box office and stir up discussion of police brutality that helped launch a revolutionary music genre, we learn that there is a sequel to the smash hit movie in the works already.

The follow up film would feature other West Coast hitmakers and legends, including, of course, Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Warren G, the Dogg Pound, the late Nate Dogg and others.

According to Dogg Pound alum Daz, a former collabator with Snoop tells, the sequel to Straight Outta Compton will take off where the end of NWA left off and take a foray into the lives and careers of Snoop, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Daz and Warren G.

The film is tentatively entitled “Dogg Pound 4 Life,” TMZ.com reports.

Daz assured the media that this film will not gloss over the seedy underbelly of gangsta rap, including the gang violence and its impact on the rap industry.

As you recall, there has been a large spotlight cast on Dr. Dre and his reported physical abuse of his former girlfriends back in the 1990s, including singer Michel’le. Dre has come out and admitted that he made some serious mistakes in those relationships (using different language, of course) back in the day and vowed that he would not and could not repeat those errors in judgement and action.

As far as the movie is concerned, there is already talk that Dre’s son, Curtis Young, will play his father. They don’t know yet who will play Snoop and Ice Cube, but we are told it will not be any of the same actors from Straight Outta Compton.

Neither Dre nor Ice Cube will be involved in the production of the proposed film, but Daz says Cube’s given the film his blessing.

As far as Marion “Suge” Knight is concerned, the man who languishes in jail on murder charges for running over and killing a man — ironically during the filming of Straight Outta Compton — they will, of course, deal with him since his label, Death Row, was the incubator for this pop culture revolution, but Daz says producers aren’t going to be working with nor consulting him for his input.

Suge has a lot of other things on his plate right now anyhow.
