Southwest Voices Hosts Historic District 6 City Council Candidate Forum

Southwest Voices will be hosting a District 6 Candidate Forum for Detroit City Council Candidates on July 30, 2013. Southwest Voices — a nonpartisan coalition comprised of The Consortium of Hispanic Agencies, Michigan Organizing Collaborative, Michigan United, and MOSES — aims to inform voters about where the candidates stand on the many issues affecting District 6 and the city as a whole. Other allies involved with the event include ACCESS and Congress of Communities.

When Tuesday July 30, 2013, doors at 5:30 p.m., forum 6-8 p.m.
Why To educate and foster a democratically engaged District 6.

The forum is free to the public and will have on-site parking available. Transportation will also be provided, with bus pickups in front of the Kemeny Center (4:30 p.m.), the Connolly Branch Public Library (5:00 p.m.) and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (5:20 p.m.). Spanish and Arabic translation will be available at the forum, in addition to childcare. Voter registration will be available as well.

Southwest Voices will also be recruiting volunteers to assist with a nonpartisan Get Out The Vote drive for the August 6 primary. The GOTV effort will include canvassing and phone banking, and will take place on August 3, 2013 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Any interested volunteers can contact Robert Nothoff at robert@statevoices.org
