Primary Election Today, Detroiters Eye Mayoral, City Council Race, Prop P

Primary elections are being held in 54 counties today with hordes of voters casting ballots in school districts and communities in 54 counties today.

The polls will be open in Detroit and statewide from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check registration status at the Michigan Voter Information Center at Michigan.gov/Vote.

According to the Michigan Secretary of State, in-person voting will be available in every jurisdiction for voters who choose to do so and wearing a mask is not required. Voting and returning an absent voter ballot is available until 8 p.m. on Election Day to complete your ballot and return it to the clerk’s office or drop box. A ballot will not be counted unless your signature is on the outside of the return envelope and matches your signature on file.

Polling places will be open in every jurisdiction on Election Day for voters who want to vote in person. Voters are not required to wear a mask while at the polls. Each polling location will have at least one voting station adapted to allow a person to vote while seated. In addition, all voters, including voters with disabilities, have access to a Voter Assist Terminal in all polling places.

In Detroit in particular, elections of interest include the mayoral race, City Council races, and Proposal P.
