President-elect Joe Biden is asking for the restoration of “simple decency” after the pro-Trump mob started by President Donald Trump forcefully made their way into the U.S. Capitol and stalled Congress from certifying Biden’s election victory, according to the Associated Press.
In his official commentary, per the article, Biden said the nation’s democracy “is under unprecedented assault, unlike anything we’ve seen in modern times.” “This is not decent, it’s chaos,” he added, according to the article.
Biden was scheduled to make remarks on the economy and the coronavirus pandemic in a speech in his hometown of Delaware. But right before he was supposed to speak, demonstrators broke into the Capitol.
Trump was also banned from social media on Wednesday temporarily after he repeatedly posted false accusations about the election, per the article. Twitter locked Trump’s account for 12 hours, and also threatened him with an irreversible ban if he breaks the rules once more. Facebook and Instagram blocked Trump from being able to post for 24 hours, according to the AP.
The two social media giants, as well as YouTube, already removed a short video Trump posted of him urging supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol to “go home” — saying he loved them and they were ”very special,’ according to the article. The same video showed him also repeating false attacks about the presidential election.
