Detroit, MI- The Pistons wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 109-103 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Kyle Singler led the way for the Pistons with 19 points and Josh Smith had a productive game with 17 points and 10 rebounds along with seven assists. Center Andre Drummond also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while draft pick Spencer Dinwiddie finally made his debut after tearing his ACL 10 months earlier. The rookie out of Colorado finished the game eight points and six assists in just 16 minutes of action and really raised the tempo of the game in the fourth quarter. “He was really good. He’s really, really talented. I’ve been telling folks around the league, ‘We’ve got a nice little steal right there with Spencer”, coach Stan Van Gundy said.
Detroit shot a lights out 15-28 from the three-point line and seven players hit at least one triple. This is a great sign for the Pistons as they look to create more spacing on the floor after struggling from the perimeter last season. The guard position will be very deep for the Pistons this year as Dinwiddie looks to compete for playing time behind Brandon Jennings, D.J. Augustine, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Jodie Meeks will be out until mid-December with a stress fracture in his back. While the offensive performance was a good sign, the defensive performance was a bit shaky. The Pistons allowed the Sixers to shoot over 50 percent for the game and they were able to get to drive the lane and score easily despite having Josh Smith and Andre Drummond to protect the rim. The Sixers will be without last year’s Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams for the first 6-8 weeks of the season as he recovers from off-season shoulder surgery. They will look to count of Nerleans Noel who missed all of last season recovering from an ACL injury that he suffered in college. The Piston open their season October 29th at the Denver Nuggets
