Detroit, MI- One of the biggest in-state rivalries will be renewed this Saturday, as the Wolverines take on the Spartans in East Lansing this Saturday. The Wolverines come in with a 3-4 record and have struggled mightily this season. The Spartans, who are the favorite to win the Big Ten title this year come in with a 6-1 record. With one of the nation’s top defenses, MSU looks to dominate a Michigan offense that ranks near the bottom in almost every offensive category in the FBS. Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner has struggled this season with finding open receivers and his ball control. Part of that has to do with his offensive line which has allowed 16 sacks through seven games this season. Gardner has only thrown six touchdowns this season and has thrown eight interceptions with a 63 completion percentage this season.
The biggest obstacle for Michigan is how to get star receiver Devin Funchess more involved in the offense. Despite being their biggest playmaker, Funchess is the only receiver that can be taken seriously. Because of that, he gets double teamed very often and with the lack of other receivers on field, Gardner is forced to make a tight play that results in an interception. MSU quarterback Connor Cook looks to improve hi possible draft stock in next year’s NFL Draft after throwing three touchdowns last weekend against Indiana. MSU looks to win for the seventh time in eight tries and continue their dominate stretch in the Big Ten Conference.
In what should be a tune-up game for the Spartans before their showdown with Ohio State next Saturday, expect the Spartans to be in control of the game throughout. This “rivalry” has been anything but and there is no chance the Wolverines will make this game interesting. Expect to see a defensive performance from MSU that will make Michigan fans not only paint MSU logos on campus, but maybe on their football field too.
