Each year, The Michigan Chronicle takes great pride in recognizing African American men in our community who inspire others through excellence, vision, leadership, exceptional achievements, and a deep commitment to empowerment across multiple sectors of society. We celebrate the accomplishments of Black men in Detroit and beyond who are making meaningful contributions in business, faith, education, politics, and community service.
In 2026, our 18th year, we will induct a new class of honorees into the exclusive society of more than 1,000 professional men who have previously received the distinction of Men of Excellence. These honorees are champions of economic empowerment and diversity, pillars of religious and educational institutions, and driving forces in civic engagement and community advancement.
The Men of Excellence Awards celebrates local African American men who exemplify extraordinary stature, integrity, and leadership. They are positive role models whose work uplifts others and strengthens our community. Each annual event attracts nearly 1,100 accomplished tastemakers, influencers, executives, and decision-makers who gather to honor their impact.
We invite you to nominate men who you believe are deserving of this prestigious recognition based on the criteria below.
Nominees must:
- Be an African American executive or business owner
- Demonstrate proven success in their profession or industry
