Mayor’s Efforts to Reduce Auto insurance

MikeDuggan.jpg.jpgMayor Mike Duggan today thanked Detroit City Council members for their leadership in approving a key contract that moves the city one step closer to potentially creating a city-sponsored auto insurance company.  The Mayor has made reducing auto insurance rates for Detroiters a high priority since taking office.
Council voted 8-0 today to approve a contract in the amount of $75,000 for Pinnacle Actuarial Resources to study the feasibility of creating a city-sponsored insurance company.  The study will provide the Administration with the necessary information to determine next steps in its efforts to bring down auto insurance rates for Detroiters.
Mayor Duggan said the unanimous vote shows the strong commitment of his administration and the City Council to bring relief to Detroit motorists.
“The high cost of auto insurance has been one of the key reasons residents have been leaving the city for years,” Mayor Duggan said.  “City Council’s unanimous vote today shows how committed we all are to offering Detroiters a more affordable alternative.”
