Magic Johnson To Receive Michigan Chronicle Lifetime Achievement Award at Annual Gala

magicjohnson.jpg.jpgLegendary NBA superstar and renowned entrepreneur, Earvin “Magic” Johnson has been selected as recipient of the 2014 Michigan Chronicle Lifetime Achievement. Bestowed annually at the publications year-end newsmakers gala, Legacy in Motion, the award honors native Detroiters who symbolize legacy and betterment of Detroit, they have deeply influenced and significantly contributed to the vision, direction, and growth of Detroit with a faithful demonstration of servant leadership.
As one of the most-beloved sports figures in the world, Johnson will be recognized for his commitment and contribution to Detroit as a fellow Spartan and business giant.  His franchise, a Starbucks in downtown Detroit and investment in the shopping centers to feature the first and only Meijer superstore within the city of Detroit to include big-box retail, entertainment, housing and restaurants on the Woodward and 8 mile strip.  Michigan Chronicle publisher, Hiram Jackson, will present the award to Johnson at the black-tie Legacy in Motion gala, taking place Saturday, November 22, at 6 p.m. in the Grand Riverview Ballroom of Cobo Center.
In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, Johnson will be joined by honorees in five other categories – Company of the Year, 2014 Newsmakers, 2014 Newsmaker of the Year, Community Spirit Award and the Rising Star Award. Honorees for each of these categories will be announced at a later date.
Now in its eighth year, The Michigan Chronicle Legacy in Motion Newsmaker’s Gala is one of metropolitan Detroit’s premier events that celebrates individuals who have made outstanding community contributions. Attended by movers, shakers and area newsmakers – from senior level executives and political officials to community stakeholders – Legacy in Motion recognizes and celebrates the top urban achievers of the year in an Academy Awards-style format.
