Lakers’ Forward Trial Date Delayed

In a Sacramento courtroom Monday, prosecutors asked the judge to delay Lakers’ forward, Matt Barnes’ arraignment to determine whether charges should be brought against him following his arrest last Wednesday.

According to news10.com, Barnes was arrested after the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call that was placed from a Fair Oaks home belonging to him and his fiancé Gloria Govan.

Though both parties did not admit to any physical altercation, deputies state that they both had visible injuries. After listening to the phone call that was cut short, investigators concluded that Barnes blocked Govan from talking with 911 dispatchers.

He was charged with domestic violence and maliciously obstructing the use of a telephone line, both felonies. He was released later that day on a $50,000 bail and posted a statement on his Twitter page, “DON’T LET YOUR EARS WITNESS, WHAT YOUR EYES DIDN’T SEE!!!”

Govan also released a statement the day after Barnes’ arrest stating, “Any accusation of domestic violence are false. My fiancé, Matt Barnes, has never physically abused me or my family.”

Both Barnes and Govan, the mother of his 16-month-old twin boys, were present in court yesterday. His arraignment was rescheduled for Oct. 18.
