Republican U.S. Senate candidate John James, a businessman, military veteran and two-time Republican Senate candidate announced today on Monday, January 31 that he plans to run for an available House seat in the Detroit area, WDIV reported.
The newly-formed 10th District (developed through a congressional redistricting decision) now features Macomb County and a small piece of Oakland County, according to the article. Former President Donald Trump won in this portion of southeastern Michigan in 2020 over now-President Joe Biden.
“Our community needs a congressman who is grounded in real life — a leader who will defend our freedom, ensure good-paying jobs are available at home and offer to extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need,” James, 40, said in a statement.
Democratic Reps. Andy Levin and Haley Stevens presently represent portions of the seat, but they are also looking to represent a new, Democratic district in Oakland County, the Michigan Chronicle reported previously.
James was a two-time Republican nominee who went up against incumbent Democratic senators, and lost by almost 2 percentage points to Gary Peters in 2020.
