Councilman James Tate, the City of Detroit’s Law Department, and industry leaders will discuss Marijuana laws in Detroit on Facebook Live. The conversation will commence on February 28, 12:00 PM, on Tate’s Facebook page. Tate is urging all residents to tune in with questions, as he and others will provide additional information surrounding the temporary marijuana ordinance.
For months, there’s been dialogue around Detroit’s extension of the temporary opt-out period of adult-use recreational marijuana. While the opt-out period continues, other cities in Michigan, such as Ann Arbor and Ferndale, are benefiting from Marijuana sales through licensed-marijuana locations. In January, Detroit City Council decided to halt cannabis sales until March, a move that Tate felt was necessary for Detroit in the long run.
“We won’t be pressured by consumers who say we’re allowing everybody else to get ahead of us,” said Tate after the January decision. “We’re not going to be pressured by the industry that says we should have an opportunity just like everyone else. We’re hopeful, very hopeful that by March 30, we’ll have that ordinance ready to roll and get voted on. But the truth of the matter is we won’t be pressured by any outside forces.”
