Inkster native and Ohio State University standout sprinter Anavia Battle has qualified for the United States Olympic Team and will run the 200 meters at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Ohio State women’s track and field, which had produced two United States Olympians previously, will now be represented by three individuals at these Summer Olympic Games:
- Adelaide Aquilla – shot put
- Anavia Battle – 200 meters
- Christina Clemons – 100 hurdles
Battle finished third in the 200-meter finals recently at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. Her time of 21.95 was a personal best and just off the times posted by Gabby Thomas (21.61) and Jenna Prandini (21.89), who went one-two.
Battle, who had a personal, season and school record time of 22.28 this season, went faster and faster each round of these Olympic Trials. She sprinted to a 22.37 time in the first round to qualify for the semifinals fifth overall. She then went 22.32 in the semifinals to qualify fourth overall for the finals.
And tonight she breaks 22 seconds, flies to at 21.95 time and earns her place on the U.S. Olympic Team.
