Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, Lavora Barnes, Chairwoman of the Michigan Democratic Party and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, headline the inaugural Black Women in Michigan Politics Luncheon on Friday, October 11th at Washtenaw Community College.
On Friday, October 11th, 2019 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm, Washtenaw Community College’s Morris Lawrence Center, will serve as a fitting backdrop for Black Women in Michigan Politics (BWIMP) as they host their inaugural Annual Luncheon. This non-partisan event is designed to celebrate, encourage, support and spotlight African American women who serve in all phases of Michigan’s political landscape.
The event will feature lunch, music, entertainment and a dynamic panel of black women in Michigan politics who embody leadership that is worthy of acclaim. “The Power Panel”, moderated by the renowned Judge Denise Langford Morris, will feature Michigan political powerhouses, Lavora Barnes Chairwoman of the Michigan Democratic Party (MDP), Commissioner Alisha Bell, Commissioner Felicia Brabec, Judge Aliyah Sebree, Mayor Deidre Waterman and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence will offer closing remarks. BWIMP’s target audience is African American women who serve in Michigan politics as elected officials, lobbyists or in direct support roles to political figures.

Senator Santana serves on the steering committee of BWIMP with Superior Township clerk, Lynette Findley, Former Commissioner, Edna Bell, and 13th Congressional Democratic Party Treasurer, Diajah Ruffin.

Black Women in Michigan Politics was founded in 2019 with a mission to showcase current black women in politics as well as support, develop, mentor and educate up and coming future leaders.
