Local Celebrity-Studded Event to Benefit the Youth of Detroit, Help
Keep Teens on the Right Track
In pursuit of its mission to empower urban youth to thrive, Teen HYPE (Helping Youth by Providing Education) will host HYPE theRooftop, an evening affair to benefit programs that help keep teens on the right track and lead healthy, prosperous lives.
Taking place at the Madison Building’s Skyview Terrace, 1555 Broadway Street, Detroit, this inaugural event welcomes Alexis Wiley of Fox 2 News and former Detroit Lions safety Ron Rice who will serve cocktails to the estimated 300 guests as celebrity bartenders. Amid live entertainment and music provided by a DJ, local restaurants will serve cuisine that is unique to Detroit. In addition, a silent auction will help raise additional funds for Teen HYPE and two local community change leaders will receive Spotlight Awards.
A 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, Teen HYPE caters to young people ages 13-22 who live in or spend time in Detroit, where unprotected sex with partners of unknown status of HIV—and other sexually transmitted diseases—is of high incidence; not to mention social ills, such as the drop-out rate, drug abuse, abusive relationships, and peer pressure leading to unhealthy choices, which also plague the area. One-hundred percent of the proceeds raised through HYPE the Rooftop will support programs that address these ills. Major sponsors for the event include Health Alliance Plan of Michigan (HAP), Henry Ford Health System and St. John Providence Health System.
“HYPE the Rooftop will be a stunning evening affair with a purpose,” says Teen HYPE Executive Director Ambra Redrick. “Throughout the year, we host events that appeal to our teen audience. This year, we wanted to add something new—an event where professionals throughout Metro Detroit can network and enjoy an evening at one of Detroit’s most celebrated landmarks, all while supporting an important cause.”
