Governor Gretchen Whitmer recognizes Women’s History Month throughout the State of Michigan. Gov. Whitmer declared March as Women’s History Month, signing the proclamation into the legislature. The theme for Women’s History Month in Michigan is “Valiant Women of the Vote,” which observes the centennial anniversary of the 19th amendment. The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote in 1920, also known as woman’s suffrage.
“I’m proud to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the 19th amendment. As a woman in politics, I know how important it is to have your vote counted and to use your vote as your voice,” said Whitmer. “During March, and throughout the year, it’s crucial that Michigan women get out and make their voices heard by voting.”
During Women’s History Month, The Michigan Chronicle will be celebrating the women in our community who are making historical strides at the Women Of Excellence ceremony. The event will take place on March 25 at the Motor City Casino from 6 PM to 9 PM. To view the list of honorees, CLICK HERE.
