Four-Star recruit Jaden Akins commits to Michigan State

Even in the middle of a pandemic, Tom Izzo finds a way to get his guy.

And once again, it’s another prospect in his backyard.

Earlier today, Jaden Akins revealed to the sports world that he is taking his talents to East Lansing, committing to Michigan State for its 2021 recruiting class. Akins, a four-star recruit from Farmington High School, made the announcement Thursday afternoon after posting a video revealing the decision. He thanked his family, friends, coaches, and supporters in a heartfelt message before ultimately stating his commitment to the Spartans.

“I appreciate all [of] the schools and coaches who took the time to believe in me and recruited me during this process.”, said Akins in the video. “But in the end, there could only be one. With that being said, I would like to announce that in the Fall of 2021, I’ll be continuing my academic and athletic career at Michigan State University. Go Green!”

Akins won’t have to wait long either to play with another MSU commit either. Multiple reports state that he will transfer to the newly created Ypsilanti Prep Academy. There, he will be paired with the nation’s top basketball recruit Emoni Bates.

Bates himself committed to the green and white this past June.

As it currently stands, MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo has created an amazing 2021 recruiting class. It i arguably the best recruiting class of his tenure with the Spartans. While recruiting Akins, he had to compete with offers from several schools before landing him. Those that were on the list were Florida, DePaul, Georgia Tech, and Central Connecticut State.

With potential changes to the NBA possibly on the horizon (i.e., the age limit), only time will tell if Spartan Nation will see Akins and Bates paired together in the green and white.

However, if it does happen, the national championship could soon see a return to East Lansing.

And it is long overdue.
