Democrats have been hitting the campaign trails hard – particularly in Michigan and other swing states – for current Vice President and presidential-hopeful Kamala Harris, and the visits won’t stop between now and Nov. 5.
Add to the list of Kamala campaigners, former President Barack Obama. Obama will be in Michigan Tuesday, Oct. 22, speaking to voters about the importance of electing Harris for president. His visit will coincide with the beginning of Michigan’s early voting period.
The announcement of Obama’s visit comes a day after Harris completed a sit-down interview with media personality and The Breakfast Club host Charlamagne Tha God at iHeart Radio’s Detroit studio.
The hour-long special, called “We the People” addressed Harris’ new Opportunity Agenda for Black Men, among other topics. Additionally, she took questions spanning topics including lowering costs and strengthening the economy, criminal justice reform, expanding access to health care, protecting civil rights, and more over the course of over an hour. She called out Donald Trump for being a “weak” and “unfit” leader who has sought the approval of dictators and demeaned America’s military, and warned about the dangers of his Project 2025 agenda for Black Americans.
Obama, who has high popularity among Democrats in Detroit and Michigan, campaigned in Detroit for Michigan Democrats just ahead of elections in November 2016 and 2022.
Harris was in Detroit on Tuesday and Trump was in Detroit this past Friday. Both Trump and Harris will be back in Michigan later this week to do more campaigning around the state. While Trump has focused most of his effort in rural parts of the state, Harris has been very visible in Detroit and other large cities, predominantly cities with large Black populations.
No additional details of Obama’s Oct. 22 visit have been released.
