Counseling assistance registration Thursday, May 14, 5:00pm at Ecorse City Council Chambers in the Albert B. Buday Civic Center, 3869 W. Jefferson – 2nd floor.
There are new programs offered by the Wayne County Treasurer  that can lower interest rates and taxes for those facing foreclosure.  Those who owe back property tax that are not in foreclosure can benefit from new programs too.  There are less than 900 owner-occupied homes remaining on the foreclosure list outside of Detroit in Wayne County according to records from the Wayne County Treasurer’s office (numbers exclude vacant and commercial properties).     Outreach for this Thursday’s session is focusing on keeping these out-county residents in their homes.      The United Community Housing Coalition has held over 45 foreclosure sessions this year in Detroit.   Attorney Isaac Robinson working with UCHC has organized sessions outside of Detroit in Hamtramck, Garden City, Inkster and this Thursday volunteer counselors (lawyers and law students) will be in Ecorse.
Attorney Isaac Robinson, a volunteer on a county-wide foreclosure prevention campaign, requested  a number of local elected  officials downriver and in Western Wayne County  to mail the invitation with information on tax relief programs to the remaining homes in foreclosure.     Mayor Tidwell, who is co-hosting the session in Ecorse, quickly sent a mailing out to residents still in foreclosure in Ecorse.    Rep. Robert Kosowski mailed the information to the remaining owner occupied homes in Wayne and Westland.   Wayne County Commission Chair Gary Woronchak mailed the information to his constituents facing foreclosure in Allen Park and Dearborn.

“It is encouraging to see more and more people getting on plans with the county to avoid foreclosure,”  said Attorney Isaac Robinson.    “The support of  local elected officials is invaluable because their personal touch adds credulity to our effort.   When a person who has lost hope gets a letter with information from leaders like Commissioner Woronchak, Rep. Kosowski and Mayor Tidwell they are inspired to step forward to learn about what options are available.   These leaders send a powerful message to people that help is available and there is still hope.  49 people attended a session last week in Northwest Detroit after receiving an invite from Detroit Councilman Gabe Leland.   Our program is working and we will keep pushing to keep as many people as possible in their homes.”

Those seeking assistance should bring a Copy of their deed or land contract or probate order and a Copy of your State ID or Driver’s License. (Names on the documents and ID should be the same.)Meet On-Site with Volunteer Counselors from the United Community Housing Coalition
