Focus: HOPE seeks volunteers to facilitate Art Van furniture donation to flood victims

Focus: HOPE is seeking volunteers on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27, to help in the distribution of furniture and mattresses donated by Art Van Furniture to flood victims.  Focus: HOPE will be distributing mattresses, sofas, and carpet remnants donated by Art Van Furniture to Detroit-area residents who have been identified already by the American Red Cross as having suffered devastating damage during the August flood.

The families that have been identified, many of whom had basement bedrooms for children, also had to demonstrate that their basements are now cleaned and disinfected and are ready to accommodate the donated items.

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Focus: HOPE Food Warehouse, 1200-B Oakman Boulevard, Detroit.

Art Van has donated nearly $350,000 worth of furniture to assist nearly 500 families in southeast Michigan.  Donated furniture is also being distributed by ACCESS and Jewish Family Service.

“We are extremely grateful to Art Van for this generous donation,” said William F. Jones, Jr., CEO of Focus: HOPE.  “Together with the American Red Cross, ACCESS and Jewish Family Service, we are assisting as many families as possible, but we know that many others are in need of assistance. We welcome other businesses to join this effort to assist those who suffered devastating damage to their homes in August.”

Those who wish to donate toward the purchase of additional mattresses as well as furnaces and other vital appliances can go to www.focushope.edu/flood.

To volunteer this weekend in the distribution effort, please call the Focus: HOPE Volunteer and Outreach office at 313.494.4270 or email volunteer@focushope.edu.
