First Merchants Bank (FMB) Breaks Ground on New Detroit Branch in Fitzgerald Neighborhood

First Merchants Bank (FMB), a prominent community bank dedicated to serving diverse needs, initiated construction on its latest branch in Detroit’s Fitzgerald neighborhood at 7525 West McNichols Road. A groundbreaking ceremony was held, attended by Detroit dignitaries including Mayor Mike Duggan, Councilwoman Angela Calloway, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) CEO Kevin Johnson, as well as business leaders and elected officials, marking this significant community event.

During the ceremony, Wayne County Commissioner Irma Clark-Coleman presented a Wayne County Resolution, and Councilwoman Angela Calloway awarded the FMB team with the Spirit of Detroit award.

The new branch aims to offer residents convenient access to essential banking services such as checking and savings accounts, loans, and online banking. With a focus on community impact, the 3,000-square-foot Detroit Fitzgerald branch at the corner of West McNichols Road and Lilac Street will serve the Bagley, University District, Fitzgerald/Marygrove, and Martin Park communities. Located within six blocks of the intersection of Livernois and W. McNichols commercial corridors, the branch will provide vital services to the broader community of Northwest Detroit.

“We engage the communities on the front end to help determine where a banking center is needed and how it can impact the community,” says Scott McKee, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at First Merchants Bank. “By engaging with residents, small businesses, and town hall meetings, we listen and connect with the people we hope to serve, building strong, trusted relationships between our company and our communities.”
