Fifth Third Increases American Heart Association Fundraisng

Fifth Third Bank Eastern Michigan participated in the American Heart Association’s 2009 Start! Heart Walk. With the commitment and dedication of Diane Jackson, team captain, and with ten individual team captains recruiting their coworkers, family and friends to become walkers in an effort to raise donated funds, Fifth Third Bank raised a total of $13,551 in six weeks. After contributing a $5000 sponsorship, the bank’s grand total donation in 2009 is $18,551. This far exceeded last year’s fundraising talley of $12,341, conducted in better economic conditions and over a ten-week span.

Fundraising activities led by various teams included selling Go Red Dress pins and Start! Heart Walk Pins for $5; conducting office $5 Jeans Days; holding a mini breakfast fundraiser; and wheeling around a heart healthy snack cart.

The Top Team raising the largest donation amount was the “5/3 Team Heart Beats” with a total raised of $4611.30. Pictured below (l-r) Janice Strociak, Sharon Merchel, Team Captain Diane Jackson, Shannon Edwards and Tina Szegda.

The 2009 SE MI Start! Heart Walk Awards Party was held on July 21 in Southfield, hosted by Barton Malow. Top Walkers and Top Teams around southeastern Michigan were recognized with certificates and plaques for their fundraising efforts. Top walkers from Fifth Third Bank recognized during the event included Diane Jackson ($1500), Sharon Merchel ($1042), Patrick Sperti ($1193) and Janice Strociak ($1003). In addition, Fifth Third Bank was the proud recipient of two certificates: the 2009 Heart Walk Sponsor Award and a second year recipient of the Silver Award, for companies raising between $10K and $25K in donations.
