Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to Donate $700K to Detroit Neighborhoods

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [FCA] announced on December 21 that it will be donating almost $700,000 to Detroit improvement projects in the Chandler Park, West End and Riverbend neighborhoods, along with an education plaza as a part of its Community Benefits Agreement with the city of Detroit, according to a Detroit Free Press article.

The automaker said $400,000 will go toward the Impact Neighborhood Fund; community members and the city’s planning and development department will decide which revitalization projects will receive the funds.

FCA is also donating $285,000 to the Chandler Park Conservancy, which will create a plaza in Chandler Park geared toward educating students about green stormwater management, wildlife habitat and also environmental stewardship, the article added.

“Our collective futures will be defined by how we collaborate to transform our neighborhoods, and we are just getting started,” said Ron Stallworth, FCA external affairs lead, said in a release.

Fiat Chrysler is almost done completing the Mack Assembly plant and the expansion of the nearby Jefferson North plant, a $2.5 billion investment. Along with Monday’s announcement, FCA discussed more of the investments it’s made, which include:

  • $4 million to create a Manufacturing Career Academy at Southeastern High School.
  • $5.8 million for job and workforce training.
  • $1.8 million for a home repair grant program.
  • $1.4 million for various environmental projects throughout the east side.
